A Home for Green Hectares

October 30, 2008

Strathcona County, AB --- Green Hectares is excited to announce that the board of directors has found a physical location for the Centre! This quarter-section facility just 20 minutes east of Edmonton already has much of the set-up that will be needed for Green Hectares.

“It is a wonderful property that will provide us with a great base for the Centre and allow Green Hectares to be operational much sooner,” said Green Hectares Chair Laura Bodell.

The facility already includes: office and meeting space, fenced pastures and pens, extensive equine competition facilities, large parking lot, mechanical shop and machinery/equipment to get the Centre going. You can also go to www.greenhectaresonline.com for an online tour and directions to the open house. Green Hectares will now focus its efforts on raising $3 million in the next six months to complete the purchase.

“This is a big challenge, but we feel it’s very doable,” said Wendy Schneider. “The project has received tremendous support in just the vision stage. When investors see the location we are certain they will see the same potential for it that we do.”

Green Hectares will be an agricultural demonstration and training centre that provides a unique education, social experience and technologies for both rural and urban populations unlike anything they have ever experienced. The Green Hectares project is a progressive way to help young people involved in agriculture identify and overcome the challenges that they are faced with today. By demonstrating and advocating for the best farming techniques through leading-edge technology or age-old natural processes Green Hectares will provide a knowledge base and working model for agricultural practices. To maximize the accessibility and learning opportunities, the Centre will use webcast technology to provide learning opportunities to young farmers regardless of location. 24-hour cameras will document and demonstrate the day-to-day operations of the farm as a learning tool and social experience.

Green Hectares Open House

Green Hectares will provide a unique opportunity for the urban community to visit the farm and learn about agricultural principles and practices. The Centre will create more awareness around agriculture and its importance to the county, economy and country.
