Nominations for Canadian Para-Equestrian Committee Underway

Ottawa, ON --- Canadian Para-Equestrian Committee (CPEC) is now accepting nominations for committee candidates to fill three vacant positions on the Committee.

The positions on the committee are not specific in task, and each position is for a two-year term beginning February 2, 2009. The deadline for nominations is November 28, 2008.

Nomination forms are available on the Para-Equestrian Canada website at http://www.equinecanada.ca/para-equestrian/. The deadline to submit nomination forms is November 28, 2008.

2009 Canadian Para-Equestrian Committee Election Criteria as determined by the Canadian Para-Equestrian Committee

• All individuals who are CPEC members as of November 3, 2008, and over the age of 18-years-old are eligible to nominate CPEC committee candidates.

• All individuals who are CPEC members and over the age of 18-years-old as of November 3, 2008 will be eligible to vote for CPEC Committee candidates.

About the Para-Equestrian Discipline

In Para-Equestrian, each rider is classified according to his or her functional ability. They are assessed by trained physiotherapists and doctors who evaluate either muscle strength, coordination, or a combination thereof throughout the athlete’s body. The rider is then given a functional profile that indicates the grade in which they can compete. There are five grades of competitions in dressage, with Grade IA representing the more severely impaired riders, and Grade IV representing the least severely impaired riders. The competition within each grade is judged on the functional skill of the rider, and not the level of disability.
