Search begins for the new voice of Chuckwagon Racing

at the Calgary Stampede

Calgary, AB --- The Calgary Stampede has set the wheels in motion, in search of a new voice for the GMC Rangeland Derby, Canada’s richest chuckwagon racing event. The search begins following the well-deserved retirement of the venerable Joe Carbury, who spent the past 45 years calling the races from his perch high atop the Grandstand at Stampede Park.

“Today, we’re beginning the important search for a new voice for the GMC Rangeland Derby,” says Keith Marrington, Calgary Stampede senior manager of rodeo and chuckwagons. “Nobody will ever replace Joe and his unique voice and delivery, so this is a fresh start for wagon racing at the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.”

The contract position is open to anyone who believes he or she has the necessary qualifications to call 90 races a year during the Stampede. However, a committee established to review applications, resumes and audition tapes will be looking for candidates who:

 present a vibrant and individualistic style of announcing chuckwagon racing

 are knowledgeable and authoritative about the sport of chuckwagon racing

 preferably have local connections to the chuckwagon community

 are not encumbered by personal sponsorships or endorsements

Persons who wish to apply may send their applications, resumes and/or audition tapes before December 15, 2008 to:

The New Voice of Chuckwagons

c/o The Rodeo Office, Calgary Stampede

Box 1060, Station M,

Calgary, Alberta T2P 2K8

Applications can also be delivered to Calgary Stampede Headquarters at 1410 Olympic Way SE.
